A Female Allen's Hummingbird feeding

As well as the parrots of Telegraph Hill, there are many other interesting and beautiful birds in San Francisco and the surrounding area. Large numbers of shore birds can be found at Chrissy Fields and Ocean Beach, including the American Avocet with its unusual upward curved beak, and the bright-on-black of the American Oyster Catcher.

San Francisco has three types of hummingbird, which will sometimes use artificial feeders, giving excellent views of these beautiful little birds. To see them in a more natural setting, visit Golden Gate Park for the Allen's and Anna's hummingbirds, and the Presidio for the best chance to see the Rufous Hummingbird.
